Bright Light Solar is justifiably proud of our Solar refrigerator, which is exclusively available through our company. Custom designed and tested in-house by Bright Light Solar, our refrigerator is specifically designed to operate using solar power. Our systems conform to World Health Organization specifications and are currently in use worldwide. For added simplicity, we also supply the refrigerator as part of a 'plug and play' system - just plug the unit into the power socket on our solar power supply pack, connect the panels and the system is ready for use!

Please see below for details of our systems and more information about solar refrigeration.

Solar powered refrigeration plays a vital role in the storage and distribution of vital vaccines in the most remote areas of the world. Recently more solar refrigerators have been used for the storage of blood.

For some 15 years engineers at Bright Light Solar have been providing expert services and supplies of solar powered refrigeration.

Bright Light Solar manufactures our solar powered vaccine refrigerator in the UK – This has been tested to the stringent World Health Organisation standards and is the most efficient unit available – see link to World Health Organisation web site for details.

The refrigeration technology used in solar applications is basically the same as that used in domestic systems. Some specialist components are employed such as dc powered motors but the rest of the refrigeration circuit utilises standard components making repair easy and accessible.

Solar refrigerators are much better insulated than conventional refrigerators and contain a number of design details that save energy and set them aside from their domestic counterparts.

Solar technology is used to generate electricity which is fed via a state-of-the-art microprocessor controlled charge regulator into a specially made battery bank. The battery bank is charged up during daylight hours storing the energy generated and provides 24hr electricity to the refrigerator.

Vaccine refrigerator systems are designed to stringent World Health Organisation standards ensuring non-stop operation.

Bright Light Solar supply packaged solar refrigerator systems that simply need to be wired with the cables provided when on site.

Case Study: Iceberg PVPS Hospital System: Vaccine, Blood Refrigeration & Building Power Supply, Abuja, Nigeria
In conjunction with our Partners Iceberg PVPS in Abuja, Nigeria, Bright Light Solar Ltd designed and delivered refrigeration and general power systems for the local hospital.

Prior to implementation of the project, electrical supply to the hospital was provided by NEPA (utility company) and had proved to be unreliable and infrequent. Running diesel generators for extended periods of time is extremely expensive, and fuel is not always readily available.

Nurses and doctors working in the evening or night require basic levels of light to work at all; performing operations after dark is impossible. The lack of a reliable power supply also meant that blood and vaccine supplies could not be stored safely at the hospital.
